Guest guest
The Ali Festival:Transgenderd/Transvestite Culture in Tamil Nadu by Sreekishen nair nasre94678 Hello again my friends! ) One subject which i think deserves attention is the diversity of cultures within Tamil society. A German anthropologist has been documenting a certain subculture within Tamil Nadu which is composed primarily of transgendered/transvestite individuals. From what the ethnographer states, these folks have their own unique take on Hindu religion and their own way of articulating spirituality. Those interested in reading the short prelimenary article presented by the anthropologist may hit the following link... there are some wonderful pictures as well... i hope you all enjoy reading this as much as i have. The article is part of a e-magazine series, called Kolam, put out by anthropologists at the University of Koeln, which is particularly concerned with ethnographies on Tamil culture... so here's the link... enjoy!!! ) http://www.uni-koeln.de/phil-fak/indologie/kolam/kolam1/alieng.html The article is called "Mystery of the Threshold: The Ali of Southern India" by Ulrike Niklas. (By the way... if anyone here is homophobic... well, get over it!... these people are just as Tamil as you are and are as deeply rooted in Indian culture)
