Guest guest Posted April 26, 2001 Report Share Posted April 26, 2001 Israel plans $200 m defence sales to India WASHINGTON: Israel is hoping for a $200-million a year defence sale to India while nearly a billion dollars worth of potential businesses are in various stages of discussion or contract negotiation between the two countries, an Israeli defence ministry official has said. According to the Israeli government and industry sources, the pending deals include a $250-million sale of the phalcon phased array and aerial early warning aircraft to the Indian Air Force, with options for another two to three aircraft and sales to the Indian Army of advanced unmanned aerial vehicles, the defence news reports. Also under consideration are sales of several thousand radio communication sets, upto 1,000 fire control systems for the Indian Army's T-72 tank and litening navigation and targeting pods for Indian Air Force fighters, the weekly said Other potential programmes in early stages of discussion involve Israeli upgrades to India's fleet of Russian MI-8 and MI-17 assault helicopters, and upto six aerial refuelling planes for the air force, it added.
