Austerities Won't Stop Vietnamese Preachers

Ram Vijay dasa and his wife, Sita Sundari dasi, have high

aspirations. They are in the midst of translating Srila Prabhupada's

books into Vietnamese, while reaching out to Vietnamese nationals

around the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea.

Titles they have translated so far include "The Nectar of

Instruction,Easy Journey to Other Planets,The Perfection of

Yoga," and "Sri Isopanisad." They are currently working on editing

the "Bhagavad-gita As It Is" translation.

In addition to preparing Vedic literature for publication in

Vietnamese, they write article for Vietnamese magazines and conduct

classes in Vietnamese culture, history, language and martial arts.

Ram Vijay says there are interesting similarities between the ancient

Vietnamese and Vedic cultures. They are also formulating a preaching

tour in Cambodia.

In the course of their visits throughout the North Caucasus region

(Karachai, Cherkess Republic and Stavropol Region), several devotees

have joined their mission.

The pair works under the direction of Kavicandra Swami of the

Japanese BBT. Unfortunately, the BBT is no longer able to finance the

work — but that hasn't stopped Ram Vijay and Sita Sundari.

Their family lives in a small, old, wooden house in a suburb of Sochi

on less than US$50 per month. "Wintertime inside the house is quite

cold and we use rain water," he said. "It's a very simple life,

almost like in Vietnam. Translating Srila Prabhupada's books, we need

to accept this philosophy of depending upon Krishna, and instill it

into our lives." Interested readers may email Ram Vijay,

sitaram16 or visit their Russian language website.
