Vedic city established in Iowa, US

WASHINGTON: Documents for incorporation of a Vedic city, claimed to be

based entirely on the ancient principles of Maharishi Sthapatya-Veda

design were handed over to the secretary of state of Iowa, Chet

Culver.

The city, spread over 654 acre is located three km north of

Fairfield, site of the university established by Maharishi Mahesh

Yogi.

It currently has over 40 buildings, all built according to Vedic

principles. They include a health spa and clinic, three resort

hotels, condominiums (ownership flats), villas and homes. More than

$30 million have already been spent on its development, a press

release by the city said.

"Maharishi Vedic science is comprised of 40 approaches, including

architecture, community planning, healthcare, education, music,

agriculture, etc. It's goal is to improve all aspects of individual

life and of society." Rogers Badgett, one of the city's developers

said.

Earlier this year, the Iowa City Development Board approved a

petition to incorporate the 654-acre site for the new city. In May,

residents of the area voted overwhelmingly in a referendum to

incorporate, as provided in state law for the creation of new cities.

Vedic city plans to expand amenities for citizens and tourists by

building an indoor family theme park with high-tech illusions and a

Maharishi Vedic observatory, based on principles of ancient

observatories.

A golf academy, walking trails and botanical gardens featuring a wide

variety of herbs and plants, native to Iowa are also planned to be

set up.

Over the last 27 years more than 2,000 individuals and families from

across the US have moved to Fairfield to take programmes offered by

the Maharishi University.

Founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the university integrates the study

of traditional academic disciplines with the technologies of

Maharishi Vedic science.
