Missile fired at Air-India aircraft

An Air-India pilot has reported that a missile was fired at his

aircraft in Somalian air space when he was flying from Nairobi to

Bombay.

According to a report filed by Airbus A310 Capt C M Edekar, the

missile was fired in the vicinity of the Somalian capital of

Mogadishu on the night of July 23, while the aircraft was cruising at

an altitude of 33,000 feet.

General of Civil Aviation H S Khola, when contacted on

Saturday, said, "We will take up this issue with our counterpart in

Somalia."

According to Air-India officials, the commander in his report

said, "We switched off the aircraft lights and accelerated to get out

as fast as possible."

A Kenyan Airlines flight from Bombay to Nairobi, which was passing

through the territory at the same time, also confirmed the explosion,

the commander added in the report.

The Air-India officials said that the report has been sent to the

Union home ministry and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
