Guest guest Posted August 23, 2001 Report Share Posted August 23, 2001 BJP ATTACKS LEFTIST HISTORIANS Asian Age: August 17, 2001 The BJP on Thursday lashed out at historian Romila Thapar and the Communists for distorting history to "propagate their ideology." BJP spokesperson V.K. Malhotra said that historians like Ms Romila Thapar were earning "crores of rupees in royalties by distorting history." Mr. Malhotra claimed that left-minded historians have tried to describe Hindus as "beef eaters." The BJP spokesperson attacked the Communists and said that in West Bengal the Left is responsible for the "Marxi-karan of the state's education system." Mr. Malhotra also objected to the use of the word "saffronisation" by the Opposition. He observed that the way the word "saffron" was being used, it seemed that the colour itself was "stigmatized."
