Guest guest
Mulayam slams PM for offering help to US TIMES NEWS NETWORK UCKNOW: Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav has slammed Prime Minister Vajpayee for offering support to the US in its efforts to nab Osama bin Laden. He said India should not be involved in the 'war'. Yadav said it was strange on India's part to volunteer support to the US without the US even asking for it. Addressing a press conference on Monday, Yadav said his party condemned terrorism, but wondered why the US should be offered support when it had chosen to remain quiet in the past over the killings in Kashmir. He said the US should first acknowledge that Pakistan was aiding terrorism in Kashmir. Stressing that India should not be involved in the 'war', the SP president said in the long run, it would prove detrimental to the interests of the country. Referring to the wide coverage given by the Indian media to the blasting of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Yadav said calamities of similar dimensions in the country did not merit a similar treatment by the American Press. While talking about Uttar Pradesh, he reiterated his demand for the dissolution of the state assembly and the imposition of President's rule. Yadav said MLAs of other opposition parties like the Congress and the BSP should also submit resignations like the SP MLAs did. He said the SP workers would be holding demonstrations at all district headquarters for the dismissal of the Rajnath Singh government. The SP chief welcomed former BJP MLA Ravindra Pratap Chowdhary of Siddhartnagar into the SP fold. Chowdhary had resigned from the BJP on Monday morning and joined the SP. He cited the anti-people and anti-farmer policies of the BJP government as reasons for quitting.
