India Warns Israel

According to DEBKAfile's military sources, Indian intelligence

officers were in Israel three weeks ago with warnings of what

was to come, after a series of Moslem break-ins to Indian

security facilities in Kashmir and fighting to the death.

 

DEBKAfile has repeatedly reported on the preparations and

named their initiators and controllers as being Mohamed

Dahlan, chief of the Gaza Strip Preventive Security Service,

Mohamed Dahlan, and Palestinian Intelligence Chief on the

West Bank, Tawfiq Tirawi, both of whom defer only to Yasser

Arafat's commands.  The raiders are armed with Kalashnikov

assault rifles and grenades for high casualty strikes.

This form of suicidal combat is practiced by Islamic militants in

two other places – Chechnya and Kashmir. In recent weeks,

both the Russians and the Indians have found themselves up

against Moslem militants who never surrender but fight to the

death to achieve the maximum number of enemy casualties.

Israel cannot claim to have been taken by surprise.

Its intelligence agencies warned this type of operation was on

the way, noting expressly that Dahlan was in the process of

training a group of ten militants in suicidal raiding tactics in the

south Gazan towns of Khan Younis and Rafah. Most belong to

Arafat's Fatah.
