Guest guest
Hello, I feel it is only just that this news (about the dismissal of Hare Krsna lawsuit) be shared with yr readers. Local PBS station,KCTS, abused the story and misrepresented the case. I know because I spent 10 yrs in Krishna schools. There were bad times and good times. No doubt, there are cases that need to be brought to justice. But the tactic of using the RICO act in a attempt to go after the assets of innocent people and temple congregations, was highly unjust. The perps were not being charged, but the culture was being attacked. KCTS's repeated airings of the show,"Faith&Fear" was in no way healing, but was rather a crass and crude misrepresentation of the facts. A virtual 'rubbing of salt in the wounds.' It is quite obvious that mistakes were made by many Krishna leaders, abuses were committed and ignored.Yet, Justice is and has been acheived by going after the real perps of the crime. No healing nor justice could have ever been achieved thru such a lawsuit, because these were never the goals of most involved. I, therefore, applaud the wisdom of the judge in this case. He not only protected the Hare Krishna's from false charges, but upheld the law of the land in accordance to the lawbooks. This is something every American should be thankful of. In conclusion, I must say the most traumatising aspects of being a Krishna 'kid,' were having to deal with the social fallout of the manipulative lawsuit, the many slanted news articles and most of all, ABC TV's 'Downtown' and KCTS's manipulative versions of our childhood stories. .
