Guest guest
Afghan donkeys miss Rajasthan fair The US military strikes on Afghanistan has had an impact on the unlikeliest of targets in India -- an exclusive donkey fair hosted in Rajasthan. A report on Thursday said Afghan-bred donkeys -- the main draw at this annual event -- were absent this year due to the conflict. Afghan donkeys and their traders from Kabul have been regulars at the event held in Bhavgarh village near Jaipur, for years. "Donkeys bred in Afghanistan and Lahore (in Pakistan) have always been in great demand at the fair," the report quoted Bhagwat Singh Rajawat, one of the fair's organisers, as saying. "They are said to be the finest. They usually carry a price tag of 8,000 rupees." While the number of donkeys coming in from Afghanistan has declined in recent years, Rajawat said this was perhaps the first time in the 500-year history of the fair that not a single Afghan-bred was participating.
