Guest guest
Re-interpret your scriptures, RSS chief tells Muslims, Christians A year after telling Muslims and Christians to 'Indianise' their faiths, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief K S Sudarshan on Friday asked 'saner elements' in the two communities to 'reinterpret' their scriptures in tune with the times and snatch the leadership from 'fundamentalists and conflict-mongers'. Alleging that historically the leadership in both communities have remained in the hands of 'conflict-mongers', he said "So far, history shows that most of them have opted for the path of conflict and intolerance only. That is why the history of Christianity and Islam is soaked in bloodshed." The RSS chief was delivering his traditional annual Vijayadashami address at the Reshimbagh headquarters of the organisation in Nagpur. Quoting from the Koran and the Bible, Sudarshan said while some of the verses can be used to promote goodwill and reconciliation among various sections of society, there were enough verses that can be used exactly for the opposite end. Alleging that only those interpretations that promote hatred and violence have so far found predominance in the two communities, he called on 'saner elements' among Christians and Muslim to provide efficient and good leadership, which can promote cooperation and love among all sections of society. Sudarshan's call for 'Indianisation of Islam' in his last year's address had sparked off a major controversy. The RSS chief also strongly defended 'saffronisation' of education system in the country and lashed out at the Communists for opposing it. Stating that saffronisation was only a 'process of correction of distorted history', Sudarshan accused the Communists of 'attempting to purge the syllabi and historical research of all those aspects that would arouse the feelings of patriotism and self esteem'. "The Communists have surreptitiously infiltrated academic institutions and want to convert India into a red bastion," he said, adding "The Communists, who have branded renowned patriots and national leaders of the freedom struggle as 'traitors', were now trying to give Indian literature and art a leftist hue." The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was only reviving the process of periodically reviewing the text-books as per the guidelines prepared by the Education Policy Documents of 1986 and 1992, he said. On 'atrocities' on Hindus in Bangladesh after the recent general elections there, he said the community is being targeted for supporting the defeated Awami League. Over 100,000 Hindus have been rendered homeless in Bangladesh and many women criminally assaulted, he claimed. He demanded some separate area within that country for the minority Hindu community. Cautioning the government against treating China as a 'natural ally', Sudarshan said India should develop missiles with a striking range of 5,000 to 12,000 kms to protect itself from any possible aggression from Beijing.
