Guest guest
VHP seeks 'homeland' for Hindus in Bangladesh By Our Special Correspondent NEW DELHI, DEC. 3. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today demanded a separate homeland for Hindus in Bangladesh as they were being subjected to grave atrocities. Mr. Ashok Singhal, international working president of the VHP, said: ``Let there be a separate Hindu homeland in Bangladesh,'' even as he warned that ``rivers of blood'' will flow in India if something is not done immediately to bring to a halt the loot and rape of Hindus in Bangladesh who were being forced to flee that country and enter India. The atmosphere of communal harmony in India would be destroyed by the happenings across the border, he warned (Desh ki phiza kharab ho jayegi). He then went on to attack the `jehadis' being produced by the `madrasas' adding that even the terrorist attacks by Maoist groups in Nepal and the People's War Group in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa ``were the handiwork of the jehadis from madrasas''. Responding to questions whether the demand for a separate homeland was not dangerous as it could trigger demand for separate homelands in India by different minority groups, Mr. Singhal rejected this, saying that minorities were safe here and were not under attack. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Singhal said the youth of this country will not tolerate the assaults on ``Hindu brethren across the border'' with Bangladesh. The Indian armed forces had made big sacrifices in the Bangladesh freedom struggle and the 1971 war and he regretted that Hindus were being maltreated in that country, especially after a change of government there. Answering questions, Mr. Singhal said: ``There is the allegation against the Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, who had not delivered on his promise to issue a white paper on ISI activities in India.'' The VHP is planning a protest march here on the issue from Ramlila Grounds to Jantar Mantar on December 5, Mr. Satyanarain Bansal, RSS in-charge of Delhi state, said. A memorandum will be submitted to the External Affairs Minister, Mr. Jaswant Singh, whom VHP leaders have met earlier to express their concern about the events in Bangladesh.
