Guest guest
A recent survey on religion in America, conducted by the Graduate School at the City University of New York, reveals some interesting trends for the past decade. Here are a few highlights: -Christianity as a whole continued its gradual decline in America, moving down approximately ten pecentage points from 86.2% of the population in 1990, to 76.5% in 2001. -Hindus, on the other hand, more than tripled from 227,000 in 1990 to 766,000 in 2001 at 0.4% of the U.S. population. -The Jewish population, at 1.3%, decreased from 3,137,000 in 1990 to 2,831,000 in 2001, while Muslims grew to more than double their population from 527,000 in 1990 to 1,104,000 in 2001, or 0.5% of the U.S. total. -The largest growing group was those professing no religion at all such as atheists, agnostics, etc. -Buddhism, Wicca, Native American and pagan faiths also increased dramatically over the past 11 years.
