Guest guest
Cybermercenaries Huma Siddiqui in New Delhi Global opportunities await job seekers and employers in the defence technology sector. DefenceJobs.com launched recently aims at enabling these opportunities to be realised by allowing job seekers to search for suitable jobs and also submit their curriculum vitae to the site's database (free of charge), via a standard web browser, says Pete Walters of DefenceJobs.com. The site offers instant 24x7 skills- matching services for job seekers and employers in the defence technology sector. According to Mr Walters: "Governments, armed forces and their technology suppliers (and subcontractors) continue to seek suitably qualified people with a wide range of technical skills." The skills required are in the areas of electronics, computing hardware & software engineering, networking & communications management, pneumatics/hydraulics and other mechanical engineering, dynamics and avionics technology, munitions and other broader areas of scientific R&D. The full list of requirements is vast, but there is a global shortage of suitable staff, he adds. Mr Walter reveals that strategic alliances have been formed with well- known industry institutes, major recruitment portals (such as TOTALJOBS.com) and specialist defence publishers. One of these alliances is with Battlespace Publications, whose managing director Julian Nettlefold told The Financial Express: "We are establishing hyper-links from our on-line services and will be actively promoting the service through recruitment advertisements in our paper publications". The portal provides an affordable recruitment portal, focussed on meeting the specific needs for defence technology. There are too few other media and only one other web site attempting to do this; and none are truly meeting the requirement, he points out. Employers (and their recruitment agencies) can self-submit job opportunities to the site, via a standard web browser. DefenceJobs.com also provides employers with a low-cost matching service between vacancies and job seekers. The site is administered and marketed by Euro Business Networks Ltd, using a professional media sales team and substantial re-investment into both traditional and new-media promotion to build awareness and visitor traffic. According to Mr Walters: "This is an exciting time for everybody working in defence technology. There is not only a great opportunity for recruiting new talent, but also a growing need to communicate new technology and promote the career development of established defence technologists. This will be well served by an ideal alliance between the best defence technology publications and the best defence recruitment web site". Mr Walter adds: "Let us not forget that military applications still represent the highest level of technical excellence for many businesses and governments. As progress continues to accelerate, there will be an increasingly urgent need to team-up the specialist skills as easily as possible ...and this is what DefenceJobs.com is designed to facilitate."
