It was built on top of the ruins of a Ram Temple that had been destroyed by Fanatic Muslims in the 1600s. All 3 Sacred sites of Mathura, Kashi and Ayodhya are sites of destroyed Hindu temples replaced with mosques. Of all people, the Muslims know how important a historic or sacred site is to a community, yet they seem to have sympathy for other cultures needs.
