Namaskar,

 

The events in Gujarat and media attack therafter have made me think! What must

Hindus do? A few thoughts -

 

1. Unity - If we are to look at Hindus before or after independence one of the

reasons for our state is Lack of Unity. Foreigners and many Indians who do not

comprehend the Central Idea behind Sanathan Dharam keep on harping on

differences amongst us, language - dress - eating habits without realizing that

the Rishis of earlier days were marketing whizkids, believed Think Global Act

Local. To them India was the world in which different people were free to

follow their own practices within a Central Idea. Friends let us set aside our

differences of north vs south, east vs west. United we stand Divided we Fall.

We could criticize other Hindus within but to the outside world we must present

one face. It might mean supporting organizations whose ways you do not agree

fully with but if they are fighting for a bigger cause we must support them and

attempt to influence their thinking rather than publicly criticize them.

 

2. Perseverance - starting 712 ad Hindus have been under attack. Post

independence we are under attack from our own countrymen. At times it does get

demoralising, I feel like giving up till I read the Holy Geeta. It has taught

me to be focussed, perseveriant and streadfast in my approach. It has made me

realize the importance of Knowledge and imbibed the spirit of Bhakti.

 

3. Share Wealth - let us resolve to share a % of our earnings with institutions

involved in Education and Health, supporting the Hindu cause.

 

4. Do away with Social Evils - We need to work on removing the drawbacks within

the caste system. We must do it for the benefit of ourselves. Let us be under

no illusion that people who want to destroy us will stop even after the

drawbacks no longer exist.

 

5. Make people good Hindus meaning make them aware of what Sanathan Dharam is

all about, its traditions - culture and philosophy. Chacha Nehru was a Indian

by name but an Englishmen in mind for which Bharat has paid a heavy price. When

we have knowledge about our culture etc we would automatically become

politically aware as they would be in a better position to benchmark ourselves

with followers of other religions. We need to build up a movement for getting

the Constitution amended so that Hindus manage their own temples and

educational institutions.

 

5. Work Harder to create a Prosperous India - I am not suggesting globalization

but simplistically put we need to work harder, encourage people to get rid of

the cynism that has engulfed us. We need to liberalize within rather than

follow the western model of globalization.

 

6. Become suppliers of Quality Manpower to the world - The success of Indians in

the U.S. has done wonders to India's image, created a strong pressure group

there. By having a significant number of politically aware Indians across the

globe we could be in a position to influence their governments to India's

advantage.

 

7. Keep Powder Dry - we do not want to fight but retain the ability to hit back.

We will not tolerate oppression of mind, body or spirit.

 

8. Media War - today's ideological battle's are fought in the media. Not only do

we need to counter that with full force but present the Indian point of view.

 

9. Stop being Apologetic - as Hindus we are perpetually under attack, the media

is scared of criticising minorities due to their strong response so they have

created a Hate Person in Hindus. Since we are not an organised religion we are

unable to protest as much, when we do the media labels the protesting group as

communal. Friends let us speak our minds forcefully, become Intellectual

Kshtatriyas. Attack is the best form of defense.

 

10. Ignore China at your own peril - Think, Had it not been for Chinese support

would Pakistan have been able to harm India to the extent it has? China has

just increased its military budget by 18 % and remember that is the published

figure!

 

Mitra it has to be a multi pronged effort, a battle that is to be fought on many

fronts, by each one of us individually and collectively. THINK, ACT, INFLUENCE!
