Guest guest
Namaskar Mitra, Have uploaded 8 pics on the Golden Temple Amritsar, http://www.esamskriti.com/html/new_photo.asp?subcatid=45 Hari Mandir or Temple of God was built by Guru Arjun in 1601 in the centre of the tank (Amrit Sarovar) in the city of Ramdaspur (founded by Guru Ram Das) that came to be known later as Amritsar or the city that grew around the tank. After Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780 to 1839) beautified the temple with gold work, the central dome of the temple and the upper half of the walls were covered with Gold-leafed copper sheets, the name Golden Temple came into being. Quote Khushwant Singh " Of the 15028 names of Gods that appear in the Adi Granth, Hari occurs over 8,000 times", which is probably how the Hari Mandir got its name. Hari as most of us know is a name for Lord Vishnu.
