Guest guest
Hinduism or Sanatana Dharma is presently on the ascent once again after about 1000 years of onslaught by Islam (Muslim Rulers) and Christianity (Europeans). Quite naturally it is the 200 odd million middle-class Hindus who would be at the frontline of this 'grand return'. The long period of alien rule have brought about almost irreversible changes in the lifestyle and values of these people. In this context, it would be worthwhile for some of us to start thinking about what will Future Hinduism be like? It is almost impossible and impractical to aspire for a return to the Vedic period. The world has changed so much that a Talibanised Hinduism would only scare people away from it. It has to be a modern and progressive version of Hinduism that would be acceptable to all. We have to clearly define the values and lifestyle that our children should imbibe. At another front, the role of elected rulers and scores of Gurus, Saints, Swamis etc., would have to be clearly defined and demarcated. A 'Dharm Sansad' having the final word may not be acceptable to all in this modern world. In keeping with the liberal nature of our religion, space would have to be provided to believers, agnostics and aetheists. It is high time some of our vanguard organisations like VHP thought about such aspects also. _______ Get your free @ address at
