commemorate the day in 1843 when Britain >officially ended their five month

military invasion and illegal >occupation of Hawai'i and formally recognized

Kamehameha III as the >rightful sovereign. > >On that date, British Admiral

Richard Thomas, at the site now named >for him, ordered the Union Jack lowered

and the Hawaiian Kingdom flag >hoisted as cannons roared. > >Observance of Ka

La Ho'i Ho'i Ea, meaning Restoration Day in >Hawaiian, will take place from 10

AM to 3 PM. To commemorate the >event, the US flag will be lowered at noon and
