Came across an institution in Pune that is doing some good work. If yu like to

help the details are - Its name is Shelter Associates having Key Objectives -

To facilitate and provide technical support to community-managed housing and

infrastructure projects in slum settlements in urban areas.

Examples of Work Done.

Housing for the poor-Rehabilitation of 56 families of Rajendranagar slum onto an alternate site.

Sanitation projects- construction of 13 toilet blocks in 8 slums of Pune and 2

blocks in 2 slums of Sangli.

Vermiculture in 7 settlements of Pune

Compilation of slum Census for the city of Pune on a GIS system. A similar

effort in Sangli-Mira-Kupwad Corporation.

We have carried out identifcation and surveys of all slums in

Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation and put this information on a GIS

system to allow spatial analysis. This is the first time that the city has such

comprehensive data about its poor and this has enabled the administration to

prioritize projects accordingly. This has also led to federation activities in

two slums -one in Sangli and the other in Miraj. Two community managed toilet

projects are coming up in these slums on a pilot basis which are very close to
