Guest guest
Srimad Bhagavatam Translation : His Divine Grace A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada SB 3.20.26 Conversation Between Maitreya and Vidura Lord Brahma, approaching the Lord, addressed Him thus: My Lord, please protect me from these sinful demons, who were created by me under Your order. They are infuriated by an appetite for sex and have come to attack me. PURPORT It appears here that the homosexual appetite of males for each other is created in this episode of the creation of the demons by Brahma. In other words, the homosexual appetite of a man for another man is demoniac and is not for any sane male in the ordinary course of life. Hare Krsna! Please note that in this story from the Bhagavatam, the demons who attacked Brahma were later appeased by a beautiful woman sent by him. This indicates that they were NOT homosexuals by nature, but were heterosexual men attacking Brahma out of lust. We should not, therefore, take this story out of context and misuse it to discriminate against and demonize our gay and lesbian god-brothers and -sisters. Srila Prabhupada is condemning homosexual behavior between ordinary MALES (pums-prakriti). When discussing people of the third sex (tritiya-prakriti), which includes those who are homosexual by nature ("napumsaka" or NON- MALES), Srila Prabhupada paints a completely different picture. He states that these people kept their own societies and were invited for religious occasions to dance, chant Hare Krsna, and bestow their blessings. We should be careful to read Srila Prabhupada's purports in their proper context, and not misread into them our own personal bigotry. We should not misuse Srila Prabhupada's purports to discriminate and put down other human beings. -Amara
