The Novgorod Kinoservis association said in the past six days, about 1,500 people in Veliky Novgorod, some 500 km from Moscow, have seen Indian movies made between 1950 and 1980. The festival, which opened on October 8, boosted the popularity of the Indian cinema in Russia made in the 1950s, according to the organisers. The festival was opened by Indian ambassador to Russia Krishnan Raghunath. The focus of the festival was films made by Raj Kapoor. After the festival ends in the regional centre, viewers from other parts of the region will also be able to see these films, reports Novosti. The Indian film festival in the Novgorod region was organised at the initiative of the Indian Embassy in Russia and the Novgorod Kinoservis association.
