Guest guest
Krishna Book Ch 6Original version: My dear Krsna, may the Lord known as Maniman protect Your thighs; may Lord Visnu who is known as Yajna protect Your legs; Revised and enlarged version: My dear Krsna, may the Lord who is known as Aja protect Your legs; may Lord Maniman protect Your knees; may Lorry Yajna protect Your thighs; (Whoever made these changes and the following, seem to need an anatomy class for the body parts, plus gets Gods names mixed up, or they add or subtract one from time to time. Keep reading and you will see.)Original version: may Lord Acyuta protect Your arms; may Lord Hayagriva protect Your abdomen; may Lord Kesava protect Your heart; may Lord Visnu protect Your arms; Revised and enlarged version: may Lord Acyuta protect Your upper waist; may Lord Hayagriva protect Your abdomen; may Lord Kesava protect Your heart; may Lord Isa protect Your chest; may Lord Surya protect Your neck; may Lord Visnu protect Your arms; Those who changed the books say it was done to make them similar to the tapes. First, nowhere have I read that Prabhupada instructed or authorized the use of his tapes against the books. Anyhow, lets see if their revised edition matches the tapes.Tape recorded version of the above verse: Lord Acyuta may protect Your arms; Lord Hayagriva may protect Your abdomen; Lord Kesava may protect Your heart; Lord Visnu may protect Your arms; It does not doesn't seem to be the case that the newer, revised edition is more like the tapes. While I have sometimes seen a revised edition have something in common with a taped version, one would think that if this was their goal, and in order to keep the absolute truth as absolute, it can not be done sometimes, but consistently. Original version: may Lord Visnu with His conchshell protect Your left side; may the Personality of Godhead Upendra protect You from above, and may Lord Tarksya protect you from below the earth; Revised and enlarged version: may Lord Ajana protect Your left side; may Lord Urugaya with His conchshell protect You on all sides; may the Personality of Godhead Upendra protect You from above; may Lord Tarksya protect You on the ground; Taped version [...] Lord Visnu carries His conchshell may protect Your left side; [indistinct] Godhead Upendra may protect Your upside and Lord Tarksya may protect you from the downside of the earth; Once again the taped version is more akin to the original version and significantly different from the revised, enlarged edition. I can't imagine what it may be like, should someone feel a need to chant these prayers for protection or another reason, only to discover they made their request to a form of Krishna other than Who Prabhupada instructed. My understanding is that Krishna always accepts if one is sincere, yet this is not the point. The point is to preserve Absolute truths. Many loose faith when they learn they did not have in their hands the unadulterated Absolute truth.Another argument in favor of book changes is to make an improvement in Prabhupada's English. Yet, this was never mentioned by Prabhupada. What was mentioned is to leave everything alone. His English held an endearing tone and form to it. Whether it was his spoken word or his written word, there was an especially high transcendental vibration to all who read his books. That same mood it gave to us can also be given to new devotees, if the changes are discontinued and the books put back to rights. There are many more just in this in the 6th chapter of Krishna Book. I don't want to list them all and sound overwhelming. I don't want to omit them and leave it sounding a smaller problem than it really is. Hopefully you will understand that there are many changes to Srila Prabhupada's books that I am not putting here. Not just Krishna book but Bhagavad-gita, Caitanya Caritamrta, Sri Isopanisad, Srimad Bhagavatam and others. From one perspective it may appear that book changes are not a guru related issue. When looked at more closely, it is. Simply because none of this could have happened if the gurus had disapproved. Not only did they approve, some were involved. Please, lets put the books back to the way they were, the way Prabhupada wanted them, therefore it will include our movement and start to bring some of the unity back. Srila Prabhupada took change very seriously. He did not like us to change anything once he authorized it. Not even the book cover:"Now we have just published 30,000 Gita-Gan's (although I am not satisfied with the new cover, why they have changed?)." LA Ca 1976, SP letter to Jayapataka "Consequently, Srila Vyasadeva is a guru. He does not misinterpret the words of Krsna, but transmits them exactly as they were spoken. If we send a telegram, the person who delivers the telegram does not have to correct it, edit it, or add to it. He simply presents it. That is the guru's business." (Science of Self Realization Chap. 2)AUDIO CASSETTES:There are approximately 150 tapes missing. A devotee who was in India at the time (Bhagavat dasa) use to go into Prabhupada's room. He was instructed by the other devotees that if Prabhupada said one word, to hit the "record" button. Now, there are no tapes from that time period. None. What happened to all those tapes? Possibly with some of Prabhupada's last and more detailed instructions on them. Were there some ritvik instructions on many of them? Were hidden or trashed? Where are they? Inquiring minds would like to know. I also discovered that just as the books were changed, audio cassettes have been changed. Be it lectures, morning walks, etc., there have been changes made. Too much to go into here right now but later, one day, I will add to this.
