Guest guest
Tibetan monk denies bombing charges A Tibetan monk sentenced to death over a spate of bomb blasts in western China has denied any involvement in the attacks. Tensin Deleg Rinpoche has protested his innocence in a tape recording smuggled out of jail to Radio Free Asia's Tibetan service. In the message, the monk says he was accused of the crimes because of his devotion to the interests and well-being of Tibetans. The monk is known for his social welfare activities in Tibet, including the establishment of hospitals, schools, orphanages and homes for the elderly as well as the founding of six monasteries. Tensin Deleg Rinpoche and Lobsang Dhondup were handed death sentences in December for alleged involvement in the bombings, which China blamed on supporters of Tibetan independence. Tensin Deleg Rinpoche's death sentence is likely to be commuted to life imprisonment.
