ISLAMABAD - The president of Pakistan's Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal, Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani, has alleged that US nationals brought AIDS to Pakistan. The Islamabad-based daily Khabrain on Thursday cited the chief of mainstream six religious parties as claiming that the Americans not only brought aid but also deadly disease AIDS to Pakistan. The alliance is opposed to what it calls increasing interference by the US in the internal affairs of Pakistan. Criticizing the US new immigration laws, Maulana Noorani called on Pakistan to make it mandatory for all the Americans to prove that they were not infected with the AIDS virus. "Americans should be made to produce medical certificate, proving they did not carry AIDS virus," the religious scholar asserted. He came down heavily on the US for subjecting Pakistani immigrants to humiliating treatment under the new laws, saying the American nationals in Pakistan should also be treated in the same way. Meanwhile, Professor Mohammad Ibrahim, the provincial emir of Jamaat- e-Islami, a component of MMA, told IRNA that the US was violating fundamental human rights under the garb of Immigration and Naturalization Scheme (INS). He blasted the US for introducing changes in the immigration laws that brought hardship to Pakistanis, and urged the government to treat the US nationals in Pakistan in the same manner. Ibrahim said US President George W. Bush was flouting all the international laws and norms and resorting to unilateral actions to settle the issue in its own way.
