Kaushik BY LB THAPA POKHARA: "The contributions of the fearless Gorkha soldiers to the Indian army is unsurpassable. Loyalty, commitment and faithfulness are the characteristic features of the valiant Gorkhas ", said Lt. Col. Atul Kaushik, Officer-in-Charge of the Indian Pension Paying Office, Pokhara, at a function to mark the 54th anniversary of the Republic Day of India in the premises of the Indian Pension Paying Office, Pokhara. Lt. Col. Kaushik also placed wreath at Gorkha Memorial and paid homage to the brave Gorkha martyrs, who laid down their lives defending the Indian soil and world peace. At the programme, students of Nepal-Bharat Maitri Vidyalaya (NBMV) had sane the national anthems of Nepal and India. Addressing a large audience, Lt. Col. Kaushik spoke about new welfare schemes launched by the Government of India for the benefit of the Gorkha ex-servicemen and their families. Lt. Col. Kaushik said that special financial assistance would be made available for dinking water project in seven villages in western districts, including a solar electricity power facility to the people of Arjewa village of Baglung district. He expressed happiness on the successful completion of eye camps held in Syangja and Tanahu districts under the joint efforts with Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh. Talking to the People's Review Weekly, Lt. Col. Kaushik said: "I am very pleased to see the completion of Nepal Bharat Maitri Gauri Marg, the construction of which was delayed by a few years." He also thanked individuals and organizations for helping to fulfill the task in record time. He also said that the IIPPOP, keeping in the view the importance of computer education, has made special arrangements with NIIT to impart computer education to the children of ex-servicemen". IEPPOP is also providing financial help to paralytic ex-servicemen for medical treatment. The program attended by Mr. Bal Krishan Prasai, Regional Administrative Officer. Kaman Nar Sing Rana, Mr. Basu Dev Olee, DIG, Western Region Armed Police Force and other HMG officials, common people and the media More responsibilities on educated youths: Premier Chand POKHARA: "The present government is committed to uphold the norms and values of constitutional monarchy, multiparty democracy and human rights", said Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand at the Second Convocation Programme organized by Pokhara University in Pokhara. Addressing the new graduates and post-graduates of the Pokhara University, Premier Chand said that young graduates have the responsibility on shouldering the burden of nation building. "The country is passing through a critical phase", he said, adding that a handful of gullible youths have been misled by some unscrupulous ones and have been using them for their vested interest. Premier Chand also said that every citizen is equally responsible for maintaining peace and harmony in the country. Premier Chand appreciated the achievements made by the university in a short span of 5 years. Speaking about the importance of education, he said: "knowledge is an endless process, the more you learn, the more you want to learn. In its truest sense, a university is the source of knowledge, wisdom and inspiration, which prepares able and competent citizens for the nations." At the convocation program, Premier Chand presented certificates of Diploma and Degrees to 167 students of construction management, natural resources management, MBA, B.B.A., Hotel Management, Tourism Management, Computer Science and Environment Management. Madiram Gelal, a post-graduate student of Construction Management and Ramnath Adhikari, a graduation of Computer Science respectively topped in their disciplines and received the Chancellors and Vice Chancellors medals. Minister for Education and Sports, Devi Prasad Ojha was also present at the programme. Professor Charles Bajarmann gave a keynote address. Dr. Purusottam Baskota had given the welcome speech to all participants and guests. Speaking with the media after the convocation, Premier Chand did not mention an exact date for the polls but said that election would be held at the earliest possible date.
