Guest guest
US gives India only one-sixth of what it earmarks for Pakistan! 20.22 IST 04th Feb 2003 By IndiaExpress Bureau It pays to be an ally of the one and only superpower in the world. This is the unmistakable impression one gets from the United States decision to allocate 326. 25 million to Pakistan. In comparison, `natural ally' India gets only 53.35 million dollar, which is one-sixth of what Islamabad has managed to get from Uncle Sam in the US budget for 2004 presented by President George W Bush to the Congress on Monday. The US is considering only 53.35 million dollars to India of which 27.1 million dollar would be for developmental assistance as against 34.4 million dollar in 2003 and an actual allocation of 29.2 million dollar in 2002. The US also proposed 20 million dollar during 2004 as against 25 million dollar in 2003 and an actual flow of 7.0 million dollar. India will also get foreign military financing for buying military- related items worth 5.0 million dollars during 2004 as against 50 million dollar in 2003. The US administration also allocated 1.25 million dollars for international military education and training during 2004 as compared to one million dollars in 2003 and 1.012 million dollars actual flow in 2002. In case of Pakistan, the Bush administration will provide 200 million dollar through economic support fund for 2004, which was same as that for 2003 and 624.5 million dollar in 2002. Pakistan is also expected to get 50 million dollar for developmental assistance during 2004 as against 37.5 million dollar in 2003.
