Of the seven global majors that have submitted 'Its Expression of Interest' to the GOI for acquiring its 34.1% stake are a Saudi Aramco (Saudia Arabian co), Petronas (Malaysian co), Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Kuwait Peroleum. Now lets look at the Islam factor. Saudi Arabia is believed to be amongst the biggest funders of Islamic terrorism worldwide, educational institutions, madrassas & mosques are a vehicle. Petronas of Malaysia belongs to a country that recently wrongly arrested 271 I.T. professionals. Abu Dhabi co belongs to a country that has played host to Mumbai's underworld for more than 15 years with no change in attitude yet. Kuwait Petroleum seems to have no negative so far. If Saudi Aramco were to acquire a stake in HPCL they could play havoc with India's security during normal times and war with Pakistan. HPCL has its refinery in Trombay near Mumbai where is also housed the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. HPCL under Islamic control could start opening petrol pumps in border districts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab and West Bengal to do what need not be spelt out. In his enthusiam for disinvestment may Arun Shourie, Advaniji and Atalji keep this in mind.
