Guest guest
to my mind Hindusthan is of foreign origin, may be Persian or Urdu. When the word Hindu itself was given to us by the Persians it appears logical that hindusthan must come from ther, today all muslims in the sub continent always refer to India as Hindustan and never as bharat. love sanjeev RE: [world-vedic] Digest Number 555 Dear Maheshji,We would like to know the exact reference of the quotes on Hindustan. It is quite a surprise to hear that the word Hindustan should be from the Vedic Literature. For example the word "Samaarafya" quoted by you does not at all look Sanskrit.Whenever I found something in the Vedas about India, it was Bharat-Varsha or something like that:e.g. in Brahma Purana 26:5 Nivaasam Bhaarate Varsha Aakaankshanti sadaa Suraah - All the Devas desire to dwell in the Land of Bharat. With best wishesShaasPS. The ending ...sthan, although I can see the similarity to the root "stha", is now a days applied to moslem countries, like Pak, Turkmenistan, Kasachstan, Afghanistan, etc. etc.--- On Sat 04/12, < vediculture > wrote: [ vediculture]vedicultureDate: 12 Apr 2003 15:56:03 -0000[world-vedic] Digest Number 555Message: 8Fri, 11 Apr 2003 21:02:33 +0530Bhattathity M P Word Hindu is Vedic TermMeaning of HINDU & HINDUSTANNowadays everybody has started defining the words HINDU and HINDUSTAN in his or her own way.
