Guest guest Posted April 30, 2003 Report Share Posted April 30, 2003 `We should preserve our Vedic culture' NT News Service Vasco, April 19: His Holiness Shri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Pujya Shri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam today blessed the Vasco city on the occasion of the Kanchi Kamakoti Jagadguru Shri Jayendra Swamiji Peetarohana Swarna Jayanti Mahotsav. While addressing the devotees at Vidhyadhiraj hall, Swamiji said that we should preserve our ancient-old Vedic culture which gives us peace of mind. Hindu dharma is the world's oldest living dharma based on the theory of rebirth and karma. The sin is the root cause of pain, while good deeds lead to progress, he said. The Shankaracharya gave a message to the people that they should always keep their anger under control and love humanity. The Governor, Mr Kidar Nath Sahani in his presidential address expressed that one should maintain discipline and preserve tradition. He said that we need the blessings of Saints to enrich our life. The people of Goa and Vasco in particular, are fortunate to have Swamiji in their own town, he stated. The president of Kanchi Kamakoti (Goa committee), Mr Dattaraj Salgaonkar in his welcome address recalled that Goans have preserved the ancient culture and spirituality in spite of various struggles. Love for the God and faith in land are the two main beliefs of the Goans, he added. On the occasion, Mr Salgaonkar released books - Jayendra Vani and Preceptors of Advaita and handed over the first copies to the Governor. Earlier, Mr Salgaonkar welcomed Swamiji in traditional way by performing padya pooja. Among those present on the occasion include Mr Srinivas V Dempo, Mr S Chandrashekharan, Mr P K Mohanty, chairman, MPT, Mr Shrikant Dhargalkar and others. Mr V Shankar, General Secretary, National Celebration Committee read out the profile of Swamiji. A documentary Perivaa was also shown to the people. Mr Kidar Nath Sahani and Ms Vimala Sahani were felicitated by the organising committee. Meanwhile, the Swamiji will attend the 3rd annual function (Vardhanti utsav) of Shri Balaji and Sri Padmavati on April 20 and 21, 2003, at Kundaim. He will also shower his blessings to the patients from rural parts of Goa who had undergone free eye surgery organised by the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Charitable Trust, Goa in association with the Sankara Eye Hospital, Coimbatore, a trust established by the Kanchi Acharayas. The Maha Kumbhabhishek and Shri Mahaganapati Pratishthapana will be held on April 23 at the newly constructed temple at Sri Gomantak Tirupati Balaji Padmavati Devasthan, Cuncoliem, Mardol.
