Indian PM Vajpayee, NJ Governor McGreevey, and HH Dalai Lama endorse the Global Dharma Conference to be held July 25-27th in Edison, NJ,USA It is rather amazing that an entirely youth engineered event has grabbed the attention of a distinguished and diverse set of individuals such as the Prime Minister of India, the Governor of New Jersey, and HH the Dalai Lama. In coordination with over thirty worldwide supporting organizations, Hindu Students Council has spearheaded the vision of the Global Dharma Conference. As Prime Minister Vajpayee notes, "at a time when the modern world has become an increasingly-interdependent global village, it needs the wisdom of the ancient but ever self-renewing Sanatana Dharma" or universal dharma. The Global Dharma Conference is such an attempt to introduce the concept of dharma to the larger community. Prime Minister Vajpayee continues to express his joy that "young students in American universities, most of them born and raised in the United States, have preserved their spiritual and cultural roots and are actively promoting inter-faith understanding." The upcoming three-day conference promises to be an unforgettable celebration of our unity and diversity as spiritual, political, and cultural experts from across the world will converge in Edison, NJ July 25-27th. It is a testament to the aims of the conference that eminent leaders such as best-selling author and spiritual guru Deepak Chopra, Indian HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, UN Peace Mission Advisor Kiran Bedi, NJ Governor James McGreevey, NJ Congressman Frank Pallone, and esteemed Vedic scholar David Frawley are attending and participating in the conference simply because of a shared vision and without any form of financial compensation. Over sixty other leading experts in a variety of fields are also enthusiastic champions of the conference and Jagadguru Sankaracharya of Kanchi and H.H Dalai Lama will be offering their blessings for the conference via satellite. Cultural programming on both Friday and Saturday night will also feature internationally recognized celebrities. Pop-Star Apache Indian will perform live at the Friday night Bhangra/Garba event along with DJ Karma and DJ Gaurav and the Saturday evening international concert - Harmony through Music - will showcase the talents of renowned musical artists like Zakir Hussain, Shankar & Gingger, Shanti Shanti, Joseph Fire Crow, and STEM Dance Theatre. The Global Dharma Conference is the largest event ever organized by the second-generation Indian American community and is entirely unique with respect to its aims and objectives. With an understanding that attendees come from diverse backgrounds and span five continents, conference organizers have successfully created a wide array of programming that can be enjoyed at several levels. Further conference details, including program specifics and registration information, can be obtained online at http://www.dharmaconference.org or by calling 732-744-0841.
