Khordad Saal

The birth anniversary of Zarathust / Zarathost / Zoroaster , Khordad

Saal is celebrated on the sixth day of the first Parsi year,

Farvardin, around August/September.

The birthday of the Prophet Zarathustra is very important date on the

Parsi calendar. Spetman Zarathust who preached a monotheist religion,

was born in Iran, in the city of Rae, which was on the banks of river

Durji, flowing from the mountain Jabar. He was born on the day of

Khordad Sal (Mah Farvardin) and was killed on Zarthust no Diso ie.Mah

Dae, Roj Khorshed) by Turani Sardar named Tur-bar-tur in the fire

temple at the city of Balkh at the age of 78.

"There is but one path, the path of ASHA. All other paths are false

paths" - YASNA

This quotation from Yasna sums up the teachings of Prophet Zoroaster.

Asha is a path of action - good thoughts, good words and good deeds -

with emphasis on service to the suffering humanity. Every living

being according to this religion is believed to posses the eternal

principle of FRAVASHI.

In olden days, Khordad Saal was celebrated with gaiety and great

aplomb. People go to Fire temples and offer their prayers. It is time

for feast and fun. Food plays a very important role as a significant

part of all Parsi festivals. Parsi food is a delicious blend of West

Indian and Indian cuisine.
