Ravana to die a hi-tech death in Agra this year

Brij Khandelwal

Agra, October 2

This year, at the Ram Lila ground opposite the Fort, the 10-headed

demon King Ravana will not die from an arrow aimed from Ram's bow.

Instead, he will have a high-tech death. A remote will trigger off

explosions that will see the huge 80-ft-tall effigy consigned to

flames on Dussehra day.

Rajesh Sharma, an electrician from Kiraoli town, 20 km from here,

said he had provided 15-20 connections (focal points) on Ravana's

effigy which would be triggered off by pressing the buttons on a

central control panel.

Nizaqat Ali, the chief supervisor, said the Ram Lila committee did

not want the hi-tech system put in operation as it could fall into

the hands of terrorists. "Ravan's death will be in parts," he said.
