The whole thing is a total mess. I am surprised that Pt. Nehru ever got a masters degree in History from Cambridge University. These are the facts. Babur was a Shia and therefore, he needed a sanction of the Caliph of Baghdad to be the ruler of Hindustan ( the area beyond HIndukush ranges). When he invaded India in 1568 or 1586 or thereabout, he did not have the sanction of the Caliph of Baghdad and thus was not a legitimate ruler, but a plunderer like Gori or Gazni. He was neither a clergy nor a king and therefore he got no right to establish a masjid. It is because he was an interloper that Sher Shah Suri drove him out of India and had a Kutba read in his name in Jama Masjid and other masjids and was accepted as the lawful ruler of Delhi and the Northern India. It was only after his second attempt that Babur got an investiture from the Caliph of Baghdad and became legitimate ruler of India. All Babur's acts prior to Sher Shah Suri's rule, including that of the building of a masjid by one of his general, were unlawful under the then Islamic laws. These could not become legitimate retrospectively by virtue of his second attempt. Just for some petty political gains the Congress party, lead by Nehru, has been keeping this issue pending, so that they could control (undivided ) Uttar Pradesh polity and hence the whole country. Like there could be no Gori Masjid and no Gazni Masjid there is absolutely no ground to accept a Babri Masjid. Yet I am surprised that nobody blows the whistle and calls a foul. Indeed it is for this reason that Hindus are a nation of dumb people in the eyes of world community.
