Dear M P Bhattathiriji,

As much as I usually enjoy your contibutions to Vediculture, the last ones on

VEDA and VEDANTA from Microsoft's website encarta were quite useless christian

missionary interpretations of Vedic Literature. Utterly unspiritual and shallow.

But then... could we expect something better from the West?

It will be my pleasure to contribute a more proper evaluation - both scientific

and spiritual - of Veda and Vedic Literature from a book by H.H. Maharishi

Mahesh Yogi. Just in a few days. I hope you will enjoy, too.

All the best,

Veda (Sanskrit, "knowledge"), the most ancient sacred literature of Hinduism, or

individual books belonging to that literature. This body of ancient literature

consists primarily of four collections of hymns, detached poetical portions, and

ceremonial formulas. The collections are called the Rig-Veda, the Sama-Veda, the

Yajur-Veda, and the Atharva-Veda. They are known also as the Samhitas (roughly

"collection").

Origins and Transmission

The four
