You could Learn a Lot from a Daitya was incorporated as a chapter in

this being called The Guide in Etidorhpa struck me as a Daitya. First

of all, he seemed to be some kind of agent for Venus, Aphrodite. In

the Puranaic literature, the Daityas are followers of Venus, although

Venus is depicted in the Puranas as a masculine god. His daughter is

Devayani, who is also worshipped. She is the one which the Greeks and

Romans picked up on as Aphrodite.

 

The followers of Venus are the ones described in the Vedic literature

as demons. Venus is known as the Daitya-guru, the preceptor of the

demons. Jupiter was the deva-guru, the preceptor of the devas, the

demigods. The idea is that Venus is very merciful to the demons and

tries to elevate them through good instruction- it is not as if

Venus is their preceptor in order to make them better demons. It is

also stated that the demons are known for not following thier

teacher's instructions very well. You can see that the Guide in

Etidorhpa is an underworld figure, but that he does have some kind of

method to his madness. So you really could learn a lot from a Daitya.
