English was considered a language of uneducated people and it was also underdeveloped language. By the efforts of British people English is a sort of world language. If an underdeveloped English language can become world language, then Hindi definitely can become a prominent language in the world if Bharatiya media people make efforts and contribute in developing and spreading Hindi. Hindi must be spread not only in Boli form, but in written form in Devnagri script as well. Bharat got the political independence from Britain 57 years ago, but it is still to get independence from English language and western culture. English has still got the dominant position above all other Bharatiya languages in Bharat even after 57 years of Independence. Shall English stay the dominant language of Bharat forever or a time will come when Bharatiya languages will get their due place? If at all such a time will come, then when it could be? The continuance of English ensures our helplessness in the political and cultural spheres; an enormous amount of brain drain through this source is going out of the country every year. It has besides dried up the springs of our national self -respect, integrity and pride and made us mongrel breeds aping an assortment of alien modes and ideas, which don't kill but sterilise permanently. With the incubus of English in all its evident and insidious ways, we give a guarantee to the world that we shall never reach a level above efficient secretaries to carry out orders and never to formulate the inspiration behind them. Already English has started destroying Bharatiya languages. Many difficult English and Urdu words have intruded in Hindi and other Bharatiya languages. English and Urdu has polluted Hindi to a great extent and destroyed its shape. Bharatiya masses of slavish mentality consider English as a superior language and have much attachment for this language. The congress workers and its followers have painted Jawahar Lal Nehru as " Jewel of India", but all the studies and analysis have proved that Nehru was a curse for Bharat. He did not solve any problem for Bharat in his life time but left many problems unsolved or in complicated position like Kashmir problem, Language problem to be solved by the coming generation. By his inability and wrong decision he has made Bharat slave of English language for eternity. Most Bharatiyas believe that we were given our freedom on a platter by the British, instead of thinking that we wrested it from them by our long drawn out freedom struggle and by sacrificing many lives and suffering untold misery. We have belittled the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh Azad, Veer Savarkar, Netaji Subash Chander Bose and millions other. If Bharat has won independence by the non-violence methods of Mahatma Gandhi, then why the success of this method has not been repeated anywhere else in the world. No other country has won freedom by non-violence methods in the world. Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru, congress party has stolen the credit of the sacrifices of other people who laid down their lives for the independence of Bharat. The worst affect of colonial domination is the residual mental mode of dependency inherited by majority of the pre- and post - independence generations. Bharat cannot be saved by part-time Bharatiyas who have their minds and hearts elsewhere or casual interest of power to be reckoned with. Most of us have become "external Bharatiyas" hoping and praying that some International body or investor will help us politically and economically. In countries of the world, except a very few for not very apparent reason, commit themselves, emotionally and intellectually to one's own country. Such persons are held in high esteem in all countries, except Bharat, where they are often belittled. In other countries this commitment is the norm and the exception is ridiculed and even punished. Since Independence, for almost half a century, Bharat under the congress party rule voluntarily accepted, apparently even enjoyed an inferior and non-consequential role in the world. For all practical purposes this has been a period of "extended colonialism." This phase can better be described as "colonialism under new management". Nobody now takes Bharat or for that matter any Bharatiya seriously in international affairs in spite of the fact that Bharatiyas do extremely well in academic fields as well as in commercial activity, in all the countries they live and work in. We have demonstrated that, as a nation, we can achieve nothing significant by ourselves for ourselves. Our English schools are flourishing wonderfully... The effect on education on the Hindus is prodigious. Not many Hindus who have received English education ever remains sincerely attached to his religion. Some continue to profess it as a matter of policy and some other embrace Christianity. "It is my belief that, if our plans of education are followed up, there will not be a single idolater among the respectable classes in Bengal, thirty years hence, and this will be affected without any efforts to proselytise; without the smallest interference with religious liberty, by natural operation of knowledge and reflection. I heartily rejoice in this project" - so said T. B. Macaulay in a letter to his father in 1836. The credit goes to Macaulay that the intellectuals of Hindu society have started looking at themselves with western eyes. They were thus convinced about the "hopelessness" of Hinduism and everything associated with Hindus became foolish, inferior and reactionary. Even Bharatiya languages have became inferior to English and Urdu, the languages of their past rulers. The self -alienated Hindus are "Brown in skin" but English by taste and temperament. The main aim of starting English language in Bharat was to subvert the Hindu religion and culture. Mr. Macaulay even might not have thought in his wildest dreams that English language would stay in dominant position and as an associate official language for ever even in independent and free Bharat. After England and North America, south Asia is the world's third most populated English speaking region. Bharat has a population of a billion people and 24 native languages. Hindi is the official language in name only and English is the "associate official" language and in practice is also the official language of Bharat which is spoken fluently by about 90 million Bharatiyas - those of the educated, dominated classes. All Bharatiyas who graduate from school are able to read and write English to some degree. An Associated Press Report in February 1996 said that in Bharat "English is considered the most important language for national, political and commercial communication. English is seen as the gateway to a good career and social status...Competition for college positions and jobs is intense and the private schools all teach in English. The Associated Press report further said that nationalist’s rail against English during election campaigns "and condemn public officials who often use it during public appearances. Some politicians respond by condemning English in public then quietly sending their children to schools that teach English." Bharat is making a very big contribution in making English as the International language. If Bharatiyas stop using English language, probably English would lose its status as the International language. Bharatiya children are not beasts of burden. In Bharat learning of English and other languages take away between 35% to 45% of a student's time at the high school stage. This can only mean less attention is paid to more important subjects. While more time is devoted to learn English and other languages in Bharat - which is only a vehicle of knowledge - we devote correspondingly less time to learn knowledge proper e.g. mathematics and science etc. It is possible and necessary to reduce the student's language load and at the same time promote education and national integration. First and foremost remove the English language from the status of Associate official language of Bharat. Students should be asked to learn any two -- and only two -- languages in the Eighth Schedule; one of these will inevitably be the student’s mother tongue, which he/she should use as his medium of instruction and even up to post-graduate stage. This will do away with the compulsion of Hindi or of any other language. At the same time such non - Hindi students who are interested in central services or inter - state trading, etc. will naturally opt for Hindi. And Hindi students will have to learn one other Bharatiya language. And that should mean equality of opportunity to all students. English should be stopped from being taught in schools, instead should be taught only in colleges. Government should stop giving grants to institutions that teach English at the school level. United Nations has six official languages, namely Mandarin, Spanish, English, Arabic, Russian and French. According to University of Washington, Seattle mid 1996 report, Hindi is the mother tongue of 348 million people, but is used by 457 million people; even then Hindi is not the official language of United Nations. Mandarin is the native language of 853 million people, but used by 999 million people. English is the mother tongue of 330 million people, but is used by 487 million people. Arabic is the mother tongue of 195 million people but is used by 230 million people. Russian is the mother tongue of 168 million people, but is used by 280 million people. French is the mother tongue of 74 million people, but is used by 126 million people. In fact, except Chinese and English all other languages used at the United Nations are used and spoken by less number of people than Hindi knowing people, even then Hindi has no status nationally or internationally. Bharat is saturated with English publications. English newspapers are very influential in Bharat. This is all due to the slavish mentality of Bharatiya politicians and Bharatiya population. English language is destroying the roots of Hindu religion and culture. Bharatiya government and the elite of Bharatiya masses are not taking such steps where the shame of 1000 years of slavery may be washed away. By the long dominance of English language in Bharat and those people who benefit from English does not even want to listen to suggestion that Hindi and other regional languages be given prominent place in Bharat. Whenever somebody says that Hindi and other regional languages be given prominent place in Bharat, there is a strong reaction from non-Hindi speaking people. Here is two typical letters from highly qualified persons living in America who think there is no shame in retaining English. "Please do not start an agitation against the English language. The last time they tried to impose Hindi on the South in 1965, there was a virtual revolt in Tamil Nadu! It was pacified only after the Centre agreed to implement Jawahar Lal Nehru's assurance that English will continue as an associate official language of India AS LONG AS THE NON‑HINDI SPEAKING PEOPLE WANT IT THAT WAY. And the non‑Hindi speaking people are not going to ask for a change at any time in the near or medium‑term future. Please do NOT do anything to destroy the unity and integrity of India which, I am sure you will agree, is more precious than anything else in the world!" For such people integrity of Bharat can only be maintained as long as Bharat stays physically or mentally slave nation. These people get glory by using and promoting English all the time and consider themselves that they are highly qualified persons amongst the Bharatiya masses. These people think that by learning Hindi or other regional languages, a person stays only semi-literate. As soon as Bharat talks about getting free from physical and mental slavery, these denationalised, mentally slave or misguided people think that Bharat will break into many pieces. If you are pro Hindi, then many people think that you cannot survive in a foreign country. For them for surviving in a foreign country, one must become slave of English. Here is another typical letter from a slavish mentality person, which he wrote to me: "If you are such a lover of Bharat and Hindi language, how can you communicate with other people in foreign countries, how could you survive in foreign country without learning English in Bharat? Do you like to be like frog in a well? Don't you want Bharatiya people communicate with the outside world about their heritage and culture, upgrade themselves and competitive with the rest of the world economically politically and socially? Regrettably we were ruled by the British, but they taught us a common language by which we could communicate ourselves in Bharat with hundreds of diverse languages and with the outside world. Only 40% of Bharatiyas have Hindi as the mother tongue, so people can communicate with each other and with the outside world using English, and with their mother tongue among themselves. Don't be a hypocrite. Be a citizen of the world, continue your culture in your mother tongue, share your culture with the rest of the world in English." It seems that such slavish mentality persons have got no knowledge of the world or if they have got any knowledge then it is very, very poor knowledge of the world. Japan, Germany, Russia, China, Arabic and some other countries of the world did not become slave of English for their prosperity or for spreading their messages and views in the world and for settling down in the western countries. People from these countries do settle down in western countries. These countries have not imposed English language on the general masses of their countries just for the benefit of a few handful people so that these people may settle in western countries. But the denationalised and mentally slave Bharatiya people want that English be imposed on the whole country so that it may become easier for a few handful people to settle down in western countries. These people are of very, very limited knowledge but somehow have succeeded in imposing their denationalised views on the Bharatiya masses due to which Bharat is not able to throw away its mental slavery. Some people make such absurd arguments for retaining English in Bharat forever and for putting down Hindi all the time, that it seems as if they have no Bharatiya blood in their veins at all. They sound that they are even prepared to invite foreign powers, may be British, Portuguese, Dutch, Muslims or any other nationality to rule Bharat again so that Hindi may not get respectful place in Bharat. People who plead for retaining English forever in Bharat do not realise that English is in Bharat at the cost of development and spreading of Sanskrit and all other Bharatiya languages. Some non-Hindi speaking people just to keep Hindi down always plead for English and want to keep English in Bharat forever. These people do not realise that with the dominant position of English in Bharat, their own language will not develop and spread as well. Business community, manufacturing industry, print and information industry, bureaucracy, politicians, people with slavish mentality, some non-Hindi speaking people and the people who benefit from the prevalent use of English have developed so much liking for this symbol of slavery, that the people who want to throw away the symbol of slavery are not allowed to do so by these unworthy and selfish people. English language is a symbol of slavery. Jawahar Lal Nehru due its foolishness, unintelligence and unworthiness as a Prime Minister put the symbol of slavery around the neck of Bharatiya masses. Bharat is not a small country. It has got many developed languages of its own. Instead of English, Hindi and all other regional languages be promoted in Bharat. As long English is a dominant language in Bharat, the nation cannot get any respect or glory from the rest of the world. No body can ever get respect by borrowing or stealing anytime in his lifetime. Same thing is with language. English will keep Bharat always a mentally slave country. Some people see no harm, no shame in retaining English in Bharat. People who have no shame or consciousness, or love and respect for mother land and people who died for the independence of the country, are more interested in earning money at any cost, who are agents of foreign powers or interested in breaking Bharat into several pieces or who want that general masses should stay poor for ever, plead for retaining English in Bharat for ever. People who use English in any form like for the cast of Hindi films, on the labels of products manufactured in Bharat for the Bharatiya people, on the sign boards or by polluting Hindi by use of English and Urdu words in spoken or written Hindi, are perpetuating English for eternity in Bharat and thus contributing in keeping Bharat mentally slave for ever by retaining the symbol of slavery. Media, social and cultural organisations have to take some such steps where people should stop considering English as a superior language. Due to such steps the influence of English language should start declining in Bharat and Bharatiya languages might get their due place in Bharat in the new century. Such steps should also break the attachment of Bharatiya masses for English language. There is nothing special about English. Due to the language of administration and medium of instruction, English has got more scientific and technical words. If Hindi becomes the language of administration and also becomes medium of instruction at the university level, then Hindi will also acquire scientific and technical words. English is just another language like Marathi, Gujarati, and Hindi etc. Hindi should also get rid from the corrupting influence of English and Urdu words. Hindi loving people should make demonstrations outside studios and cinema houses, asking producers that the casts of all Hindi TV programmes and Hindi films must be in Hindi. They should also demonstrate outside some manufacturing companies asking the producers to put at least 50% Hindi on all their labels. To promote south Bharatiya languages in Hindi speaking areas some steps should be taken for example part of the cast of the southern Bharatiya films be given in Hindi and these films should carry the subtitles in Hindi at the bottom of the screen for such films. Then Hindi-speaking people would also be able to enjoy the southern films in original. The destiny of a country whose religion, culture and language has been preserved by Providence for over five thousand years of known and verified history and the origin of whose religion and culture, God knows, goes into the subliminal recesses of human history, stored in mankind's unconscious, is marked and chosen by the same Providence to emerge as a beacon light for mankind in the present all encompassing gloom. Naturally Bharat will get back its glory in its religion, culture and language as well. But first Bharatiya people have to throw away all the symbols of slavery and have to become mentally free as well. Hindi is a developed language and has a vast ocean of its own words. Hindi does not need crutches of Urdu and English. It is the responsibility of Media people that they should try to make pure Hindi, (free of Urdu and English words) a prominent language of world.
