Guest guest
Jai Sri Krishna. font-family:Arial">On the morning of the 26th of December, a earthquake in Sumatra resulted in a massive tsunami that has resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. You all know this since it has been on every single news channel / paper since then (Indian and otherwise). What have you done about it? font-family:Arial"> font-family:Arial">Yesterday, a group of us Indians in Amazon.com decided that we would not take a passive role and simply send our donations. We motivated the company and launched the Tsunami Disaster Relief collection drive – where all funds collected will go to the Red Cross’s relief efforts (see www.amazon.com). This launched approximately 12:30 PM today (12/28) and at 7:45 PM donations crossed the $600,000 mark. In addition, we are planning on sending our individual contributions to organizations more directly involved with the relief work (IDRF, BAPS Care, etc). font-family:Arial"> font-family:Arial">As per Swami Prabhupada’s instructions, the ISKCON Food for Life program was started … to make sure no person went hungry within 10 miles of our temples. Continuing working as per the instructions of our Guru, it is collecting funds that will be used to provide Prasad to the victims of the Tsunami. I personally have donated $501 to help with the disaster relief in addition to two days dedicated to launching Amazon’s collection efforts. Others have pledged to donate a day’s, week’s, and month’s wages. I would request that you to donate as much as you can. It is times like these our dharma requires us to take action. If we are to attempt to be true devotees of Krishna, we cannot sit idle and say that we will selectively choose to ignore our dharma to our country and to humanity. We should also not take the easy way out and simply equate our duty with donating money. font-family:Arial"> font-family:Arial">Our temple in Chennai is also not sitting idle. They are organized a massive relief program in the Chennai area and are working at distributing prasadam, clothes, etc. font-family:Arial"> font-family:Arial">I urge you to be active and organize a collective action through your places of employment in addition to personally donating money to organizations working towards helping people get through this tragedy. Remember, collectively, we are a large community that is greater then the sum of its parts. Together, we can influence change, and motivate our organizations to provide more than we can individually! font-family:Arial"> Yours in the service of Lord Krishna, Krishna font-family:Arial">
