Mother commits suicide to gift eyes to blind sons

Chennai: A 37-year-old woman committed suicide to fulfill her wish of

providing eyesight to her two blind sons.

 

The woman, Tamilselvi, was dejected that her two sons were blind and

were studying in a visually impaired school in the city.

 

With her efforts to find eye donors for them proving futile, she

decided to register with an eye bank here and take the extreme step to

ensure that she could herself turn donor.

 

She was found hanging at her residence in suburban Kodungaiyur in

North Madras on Friday.

 

Eye bank authorities, who were informed about her death, removed her

eyes to fulfill her wish.

 

The body was later sent for post-mortem by policemen.
