Guest guest
Jaya Sriman Narayana Let me at the out set clarify that the earlier posting and the present one are extracts from articles appeared in the magazine published on 600th year celebration of Mamuni, by Manavala Mamuni Sabha ,T.Cane in the year 1970. "Any Srivaishnava is not worth the name unless he has the ego completely conquered.A Srivaishnava should look upon every other Srivaishanava has his master. Two disciples of Manavalamamunigal ,who were studying Pillai Lokachachryas Srivachanabhushanam(which sets forth the code of conduct, frame of mind, attitude etc of Srivaishanava) under Mamunigal were quarrelling incessantly, much to the annoyance of the master>One day while returning from the temple in the company of these disciples , maamunigal found 2 dogs barking at each other fiercely. he remarked to himself, but loudly enough to be heard by others, "surely these animals should have mastered the Sri vachanabhushanam that they can quarrel thus" . that was the end, fortunately, of the quarrels between the disciples. a vaishnava prince of north india hearing of the greatness of maamunigal , wrote to him requesting for advice which would be the essence of all the sastra's and folllowing which one woulfd be lifted upto salvation . he got the following in reply " it is not enogh to realise that one solely belongs to the lord. it is not enogh if one worships HIM devoutly. it is not enough if one obeys one's acharya implicitly. it is not enough if one folows the lord's devotees. Surving HIM reasonably well, one should behave in such a manner that any sri vaishnava coulld enter one's residence and feel completely at home without any doubt or trepidation. if this does not obtain all talk of gyana , anushtana bhagavad rhasyas etc or like a immoral ladies discourse on chastity. Very old, weak and confined to bed, maamunigal was writing with his own hand the commentaries on Acharya Hridayam . Kandadai Annan who could not bear the sight of the master putting himself to such great pain , holding the writing pin in his hand inscribing the words obn the palm leaves asked " why should you put all these in writing even suffering intense pain?" the master replied" so that your sons and grand sons may gain benefit from the treasures left by pur acharayas" such was his infinite concern for his spiritual welfare of humanity. Post script: It is festive time at Sri Parthasarathy Swami temple. Even the Presiding deity is relegated to back stage when it comes to Utsava time for our Great Acharya Maamuni.Srivaishanvas in hundreds have been gathering in the last two days and one should see and hear the Arulicheyal ghoshty consisiting of boys of eight and nine years and putting some like me in utter shame. May these tribe grow in large number and protect and spread our sampradhayam . more to follow.........
