Dear Sri Mukundan

 

I just read your post on the mis-information. This is my 2 cents

worth.

 

I have come to an understanding that, view expressed by some,

particularly within the USA, w.r.t our sampradhayam and its existance

are very extreme. It is rather unfortunate that, some of these views

do not hold water in India, but seems to be very acceptable to some

Sri Vaishnavas outside India.

 

It is also my belief that we need to ignore some these views and go

about educating those who are loosing interest in our sampradhayam. If

views like these come from some high ranking religious person, then we

need to take some action to counter it, other than that, we should try

not to get distracted by such statements.

Dear Mukundan,

 

This is precisely one of the problem that I am thinking about for quite

sometime, which we should tackle with utmost care. The only way, I feel, is

, creating information database on the net. We have many scholars writing

on such disputes. We have the great Puttur Sri Krishnaswamy Iyengar , the

author of the magazine "Sri Vaishnava Sudarsanam", who has written numerous

articles on this.

 

I take this opportunity to introduce all members to Sri Puttur swamy (for

who do not know him). He is probably in his late 70s or early 80s (I am not

sure), very weak (weak enough to even get up from his bed). The amount of

untiring efforts he has put during his lifetime for the samrakshaNa of the

Ramanuja sampradhAyam and Sri Vaishnavam as whole, is beyond words. He has

brought out a lot of books on Azhwar-Acharyas' Sri Sookthis and their

Vyakhyanams. Whenever any thing is written ill about Sri Vaishnavism as a

whole or the Ramanuja sampradhAyam, he will be the first to voice the

protest. To date, there are many people who are yet to reply to his

questions, when they attempted to deface the Sri Vaishnavism or the

Ramanuja Sampradhayam. A Partial list of those people include,

 

1. Sri Kanchi Sankaracharya (both Sri Chandrasekara saraswathi swamy and

the present day Jayendra saraswathi swamy). Probably the only block they

received for their preachings against Sri Vaishnavism is only from Sri

Puttur Swamy and Sri P.B.A swamy.

2. Sri Madurantakam T.E. Veeraragavachar swamy,( I will give a brief

account of his argument with Sri Puttur Swamy which is very much related to

this message)

3. Sri D.T. Thathachariar swamy (he once wrote that, a small Village,

Thiruvarangam, near ThirukkOvalUr, is also a divya dEsam and the vimAnam of

the temple "ChandOgya vimAnam" is what Sri Thirumangai AzhwAr referred to

as " sandOgA thalaivanE" in his illustrious Periya Thirumozhi sAtrumaRai

pAsuram "nandA naragathu azhundhAvagai...". He is yet to reply to Sri

Puttur Swamy's questions.

4. Sri Agnihotram Ramanuja Thathachariar swamy (He even when to the extent

of saying Vishnu is not the supreme god and in Vedas, no where it is said

that Vishnu is the supreme god). He is yet to reply to Sri Puttur Swamy'

questions.

 

The style with which he writes is remarkable. He does not speak anything

without the proofs from the poorvAchArya Sri Sookthis.

 

He has given us with remarkable works in association with Sri Velukkudi

Varadachariar swamy, the proud father of the proud son, Sri Velukkudi

Krishnan swami (also a member of our list)

 

Coming to the subject back, one of such books explained above is

"siddhOpAya vijayam" which was authored by both Sri Puttur Swamy and Sri

V.Varadachariar swamy. This book is a rebuttal to the misinformations that

were being spread by Sri Madurantakam swamy and Sri D.T.T swamy that the

poorvAchAryas' (like Sri Nanjeeyar , Nampillai et al) thiruvuLLam is in

line with only Sri Desikar's thiruvuLLam and so they are also only

vadakalai in nature. They even went to extent of saying that swami

maNavALa mAmunigaL's thiruvuLLam is also in line with the vadakalai

sampradhAyam. The exact situation that Sri Mukundan faced in Denver. This

book gives a lot of pramANams refuting their claim and thereby establishing

that the true Ramanuja sampradhayam (Sri Vaishnavam) is the present day

ThennAchArya sampradhAyam.

 

I read the book two times, but sorry, still my knowledge gain is very less.

So I request Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swamy who introduced me to that book,

to probably bring out the essence of the book in english so that the same

can be archived in the net and given to those who make such false

propaganda and make them shut.

 

This I hope is the most sAttvika way of refuting the false claim and

establishing the truth.

In Denver the lady (Not revealing Name) who spoke on

Swami Vedanta Desika, started saying this Ramanuja Sampradaya did not exist

till

200 Yrs ago. Every thing has always been Desika Sapradaya (All the Azhwars

& Acharyas Including Ramanuja, EMbar, Bhattar, Nanheeyar, Nampillai were

all Vadakalai) These type of extreme untruth does a lot of damange to the

community and culture. (And this too at a ISCKON temple)

 

When we had our turn to speak: (Started with Srisailesa daya...)

adiyEN just stuck to the Mamunigal vaibhavam. but made two points:

 

Munnor Mozhindha Murai Tappal Kettu, Pinnorndhu TaMadhanai Pesadhe.

(From Upadesa Ratina Malai: Do not say things on your own, just learn from

previous great acharyas, only repeat what they say, with references to

them)

 

[For this the older lady later said she has heard this from their acharyan]

I think the some devotees are misusing their acharya's name or the ....

 

Then adiyEn said:

Astika Nastikan : Again from Upadesa Rattina Malai,

We can be with Astikas, and we can also accept Nastikas, but the utmost

dangerous are the Astika Nastikas

(Rougues who look like Astikas, but from inside are spreading the

wrong message of our Acharyas and damaging the system.]

 

It is just crazy that there is soo much to be done for the Ramanuja

Sampradaya here, but within ourselves (Ramanuja & desika sampradaya) so

much misinformation is causing soo much rift.

 

We seek your guidance in how to approch this. Please give ideas,

suggestions

based on which we will setup a plan of action and start in the next few

weeks.
