nAvEkshasE yadi tato bhuvanAnyamooni

nAlam praBhO bhavitumEva kuta: pravritti:

Evam nisargasuhrudi tvayi sarvajantO:

swaminna chitram idam Ashrita vatsalatvam ||

 

praBhO - oh protector of the worlds!,

amooni bhuvanAni - these worlds (sentient and non-

sentient)

na avEkshasE yadi - if you had not showered your

grace{katAksha};if you had not cast

your graceful looks (as described

in bramha sutras by "E kshatE rnA

shabdam" and "gouNa

shchEnnAtmashabdAt" , "sankalpa" in

the form of grace is meant here.)

 

tatha: - during the time of praLaya {at that time,

without Your grace}

bhavitum Eva - manifestation,

na alam - not possible

 

kuta: pravritti - (without your grace) where is the

future for these incapable worlds?;

{even when they would not been

been present without your Grace,

what is there to say about the

happenings in them?}

sarvajanthO: - all living beings,

hE swamin - oh, Protector!,

Evam - in this way,

nisarga suhrudi - natural well wisher,

tvayi - in you,

idam - this ,

Ashrita vatsalatvam - the attribute of great affection

 

towards those who consider You

as their refuge; {just like a

cow is affectionate towards its

newborn calf - even the dirt it

likes of it}

na chitram - is not surprising {is not special etc.}

 

tAtparyam:

 

Oh. Protector of the universe!, without your grace

nothing in this world could have manifested. For You,

who by nature, is a well wisher to every living being,

 

love and affection towards those who are

Your devotees (And hence, protection to them) is a

very natural attribute.
