nammalvar sambandam-a short story.

Dear baaghavathaas,adiyel would like to share a

wonderful part of the upanyaasam of sri. velukkudi

krishnan swamigal,which i heard in our audio caeete

recently,wherein,madura kavi alwar while explaining

the nammalvar prabhavam to us,says that neither lord

krishna nor vyaasa muni can come in par with nammalwar

and added an interesting story related to that.Once

upon a time there was a yogi near the bank of river

taamira varuni, meditating upon lord narayanan to

attain moksham. There was also a dog seen always with

yogi.It crosses the river, every day going into the

town thirukuruhoorand eats the left overs [food

items]in the banana leaves thrown by baagavathaas in

front of their houses.after that it comes back and

sits beside yoghi.This was going on routine. One day

as usual the dog returns from thirukuruhoor crossing

the river,but unfortunately,due to a sudden flood

the dog drowned in the riverand died.The yogi

,beholder of this scenebecame speechless on seeeing

the dog's aathma jothi travelling fast towards parama

padam.The yogi bursted with great distraught, cries

loudly praying nammalwar that " if you can grant

moksham to a dog because of its kuruhoor

sambandam,what is wrong in showing your grace to a

devil like me."Here the kavi describes nammalwar's

capacity of intoxicating bagavaan by his

paasurams.lord narayanan approves, shows his great

appreciation,exhileration by nodding his head gently

with great joy which is impossible or unimaginable

even for great rishis bytheir penance.Here it goes,"

vaaikkum kuruhai thiru veedhi echilai vaari unda

naaikkum paramapadam alitthaai,andha nayodu indha

peykkum idamalitthaal pazhutho!Peruman magudam

saaikum vannam kavi solla valla gnana thamizh

kadale! the story moved me very much.Iam sure all the

baagavathaas will experiance the same.
