Guest guest Posted March 26, 2002 Report Share Posted March 26, 2002 Lakhs witness Melukote Vairamudi Utsav DH News Service MELUKOTE, (Mandya dt), March 25 The famous Vairamudi Utsav was held amid chanting of Vedas at the Cheluvanarayana Swamy temple in Melukote in Mandya district on Sunday. Nearly two lakh devotees from the State and the neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu converged at the temple for a glimpse of the deity. The Vairamudi Utsav, which began at 8:30 in the night stretched on till the early hours of Monday. This was followed by adorning the deity with the diamond studded Rajamudi crown. Earlier, the Vairamudi and Rajamudi ornaments were offered to the priests and administrators of the temple from the district treasury under police security. Later, at 6 pm the box containing the Rajamudi ornaments was inspected by Deputy Commissioner L K Atheek,Subdivisional Officer Chikkathimmaia, Superintendent of Police Amar Kumar Pandey and the temple's Chief Executive Officer and Tahsildar Rajgopal before handing it over to the temple trustees K S Narayan Iyengar, R Srinivasan and Narasihmachar, and priests Sampath Kumar Bhatt and M A Narasihma Iyengar.
