Guest guest
Dear All SriVaishnavAs Adiyen would like to forward the message to the list from Srilatha on Ramayana Thani Slokam Adiyen Gunaseelan --- Srimathe Ramanujaye namaha "Srimath Krishna samhvAya namo Yamuna soonavE yath kadAkshyka lakshyAnAm sulabha: sridhara sadhA" Dear sri vaishnavaas,Adiyel would like to continue with the second part of Ramayana Thani Slokam (sargam 16 slokam 1)on Vibeeshana"sunivishtam hitham vaakyam ukthavantham vibishanamapraveeth parusham vaakyam raavanaha kaala chothitha:"Raavana who became exasperated on hearing Vibeeshana's advice replied him sternly with words that were meantonly to an enemy. Here from Vaalmiki's point of view ,Raavana must havesaid atleast one or two of the following.1.Oh munivare! Is it not from you I learnt all the vedas ! All my suspicions got cleared. I abide by whatever you say.(Geethai-18-73) You destroyed my evil thoughts! (Ennai thee manam kedutthaai unakku en seigen! thiruvai mozhi-2-7-8) admiring an acharyan out of gratitude. But Raavana did neither of the above.Vibeeshana carefully picked out all the good and kind words in such away that one would say that there was no stock of sweet words in the whole world there after.Where as Raavana who became furious rebuked Vibeeshana uttering fatous and vapid words that one would say that there was no stock of such words in the world there after.Vibeeshana's advice was in a manner that was not only pleasing but would also pierce deep inside into Raavana's heart. On the contrary , Raavana made callous and cutting remarks against vibeeshana mainly to affront him.The above padams explain the reason and the very mening of the name 'Raavana' itself is the one who make the other person cry (Raavayathi rothayithi ithi Raavana:)Raavana once left his foot mark in kailasham and brought himself nothing but the trouble.Again, he volunteered to fight with Vaali and got into Vaali's trap. He could not make a favourable climate either to himself or to others.(AapyilE kaalitta kurangu pole thaanum azhubavan aagaiyal Ravanan) Because of these reasons it is said that the name itself speaks for himself of his qualities. Kaalanaal thoondapattavan : Yama stood behind Raavana grabbing his neck with his hands and didnot make Raavana to hear what his brother said.Vibeeshana said"surrender at the feet of Rraama" . But Yama told Raavana that it was not correct and commanded him to fight with Raama. Here Raavana instigated by Yama says "I may be diviided into pieces, yet I will not bow to anyone" VyAkyArtha (Sri.Periavaachaan Pillai) clearly points out that this attitude of Raavana made him to go behind Yama. Adiyel wish to continue with Sargam 17 in the next posting , about Vibeeshana leaving Ravana Also Adiyel would like to request great scholars Sri PeriavAchAn pillay Thiruvadigale saranam Adiyel Srilatha Gunaseelan
