Guest guest
sri: Humble pranams to all Devotees. Many of our Acharyas works seems to have Phala sruthi at the end, is there any explanation for that. 1. Is it ok for a Sri Vaishnava, who by the divine grace of the Lord is in the prapatti marga to seek Phalan (Apart from Kainkariyam). 2. Is it acceptable for a prappana to: To do something "from our side" with his divine grace, and in exchange seek benefits from the LORD. What is the position of most acharyas on azhwars works which have Phalasruthi in the last para of many pattus. azhwAr emberumAnAr JeeyAr thiruvadigalE saranam adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan Mukundan Vangkipuram Pattangi http://www.radioramanuja.com/docs/mag.htm
Guest guest
Dear Sri.Mukundan Pattangi: Pranams! Your question is very valid. I have thought about it many times. Eventhough I dont possess any knowledge, I would like to give my thought and what I have heard from Scholars. Considering the case of Acharyas and Alwars, they only desired for Moksha, and showed the way foir it, but in order to get down to the level of Human beings, or rather us, they have put themseleves in our shoes and have added Phala Sruti in the last part of each of their works. This kind of thing can be found even in Vedas. These phalasrutis look like as if we are seeking for some worldly thing. Actually, there are more levels of meaning to them if we start analysing. To my limitation, and what I have heard, they by any means DONT convey the message of asking for anything other than MOKSHA. All the things that have been asked for, form only assisting entities for a person who seeks MOKSHA. We can see one common vedic mantra recited in any religious function saying that we get various things like Danam, danyam etc. They only assist a person who is into the enquiry of Brahman (Brahma Vidya), or rather seeking MOKSHA, which is in the form of NityaKainkaryam to the Suprem Being, Sriman Narayana in our Sampradayam. Guest guest
Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha Appan Thiruvadigale saranam. Dear Devotees Accept my pranam. Today's postings mainly deals with Prapanna and his position. Adiyen will try to answer them to the extent myself have learnt. Prapanna's thought, deed etc., is always about Emperuman. He is living by the divine grace and his ultimate aim is directed to 'Moksha'.The 'palasruthi' blesses him with a congenial family life. All the members will follow in his footsteps leading a life of Baghavat and Bhagavata Kainkaryams. As an example., here the main point expressed in Thiruvaimozhi pasuram 8.10.11 is given below: Those who have learnt these 10 pasurams well will be blessed with a congenial family that will do service to Baghavathas. A small anecdote is also mentioned in the 'EEdu'. A group of Baghavathas on their way to Thiruvananthapuram visited Thirukoshtiyur Selvanambi Thirumaligai. But, Nambi was out of sation. Still Ammangar of the Thirmaligai entertained them with sufficient food. Next day Nambi arrived home and enquired about the grains that was kept in store. Ammangar replied "PARAMAPADHATHILE VILAIVATHAKA VITHINEN' .ie., "cultivated them for harvest in Paramapadam ' Such was the understanding with Nambi and his family. If any disruption arises, the prapanna may get frusterated and may seek Sanyasa (eg. Sri Ramanuja); the other end eg., Sri Kurathazhvar. Prapanna's request,or prayer to the Lord will be in the fashion of Azhvars.... 'UNNLALAL YAVARALUM KURAI VENDEN' (Thiruvaimozhi 5.8.3) 'THOZHUVANENAI UNATHAL SERUM VAGAYE SOOZHKANDAI ( THIRUVAIMOZHI 5-8-5 'ERRAIKKUM EZHEZH PIRAVIKKUM UNTHANNODU URROME YAMAVOM UNAKKE YAM ATCHYVOM MARRAI NAM KAMANGAL MAARREL...'(THIRUPAVAI.29) and so many in this fashion. Prapanna's Atma Yatra is Baghavathateenam ( as said by Sri Ramanuja). His main quality is 'ADHVESHAM'.. ='vilkkamai' ' not avoiding' . If Emperuman desires one thing he will not reject it; he will gladly accept it. If he decides to something on his own accord, it may end in danger.Better he avoids his effort. Here, there is one anecdote in Thiruvaimozhi 9-1-9. " YATHUMILLAI MIKKATHANIL ENRUENRUATHU KARUTHI KATHU SEIVAN KOOTHAI SEITHU KADAIMURAI VAZHKKAIYUM POM" In olden days to wear a bigger ear ring, the hole in the ear will be enlarged with a role of palm leaf.( This is Kathuseivathu) This may result in the hole becoming too large unfit to wear the ear ring... and now the hole has become very big usless to wear the one hitherto worn also. The existing beauty also is lost. The moral is Prapanna leaves the matter of his initiative in respect of Atmayatra to Lord Himself. For his day to day life he is self contained. He does not make demands.( Here Sri Kurathazhvar's example of accepting a very limited quantity of Prasadam when Prasadam came from Periya koyil with due honours on the orders of Lord Ranganatha may be remembered.) Adiyen hopes that above informations cover the points raised. Any error if ponted out Adiyen will stand correctd Adiyen Parthasarathy dasan.
