Today coincidentally i received some information about Kunthagai

(avatara sthalam of Svaami Thiruvaaymozhi pillai) from

Sri Sudarshan Iyengar in response to my ealier query also posted in

another list.Hence i thought of sharing this and some other information

about Svaami Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai.Though i am ineligible and not qualified

to write or say anything about our Svaami Thirumalai alwar some arvam and

the mail that i received today made me post this article. Any errors in

the posting are mine alone from the information that i have collected and

prasaadha labdha paramapraapya kainkarya saalinae"

Svami Thiruvaaymozhi pillai was born in the village Kunthee Nagaram near

Madurai in the year 1290 on Vaikasi Visagam. He was named as Thirumalai

alwar.Svaami is also popularly known as Sri Sailesar.Kunthee Nagaram (now

known as Konthagai) is about 12 kms towards the east of madurai.(There are

buses which go straight to Konthagai from Periyar bus stand in madurai .It

is near to a place called Silaimaan( 4kms from siliamaan).Silaimaan is

well known in madurai and has a higher frequency of buses from periyar bus

stand. The auto fare to konthagai maybe around Rs 75/- from central

madurai). There is a small temple here and the presiding deity is

Deivanaayaka Perumal with Bhumaa Devi and Neelaa Devi as consorts. This

temple was recently renovated on 5-6-2000.

Svaami Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai was the acharya of

Svaami Manavala Mamunigal. As a child Svaami Manavala Mamunigal was very

much attached to Svaami Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai and Svaami Thiruvaaymozhi

Pillai had a special liking for Svaami Manavala Mamunigal.Even though

Svaami Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai was occupied with the renovation and

reconstruction of Azhwar Thirunagari Temple,it is said that Svaami

Manavala Mamunigal used to be with Svaami Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai and Svaami

Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai used to talk and explain Bhagavath Vishayam

to Svaami Manavala Mamunigal .

Svaami Manavala Mamunigal addresses Svami Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai

as 'endhai' (as revered father) and mentions the grace of Svaami

Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai that he has received and bases his upadesam

on Svaami Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai's teachings for the benifit of the

future generations

Svaami Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai spent his life in grooming Svaami

Manavala Mamunigal as the future acharyan and taught Svaami Manavala

Mamunigal many Sampradaya Grantham and Vishayams like Eedu Vyakyanam

Svaami Thiruvaaymozhi pillai also composed a Vyakyanam for

Periyazhwar Thirumozhi.

Svami Thiruvaaymozhi Pillai (like Svaami Emperumanar) lived upto

the ripe age of 120 and attained paramapadam in the year 1410.
