Dear Srivaishnavas,

Please accept adiyel's humble namaskarams.Adiyel is extremely sorry for the

delay in my posting and hope

our bagavadotthamaas will excuse me for this.

This post will describe baout the Ramayanam Sargam 17 Slokam 1

"Ithyuktva parusham vaakyam raavanam ravananuja

Aaja gaama muhurthena yatra ramaha salaksnmana"

Word by word meaning:

Ravananujaha-Ravana's brother Vibishana

Ravanam-about Ravanan

Ithi-like this

Parusham-harsh

vaakyam-word/statement

Uktva-having uttered

Yatra-the place where

Ramaha-Srirama

salakshmana-accompanied by Lakshmana

Muhurthena-quickly

Aajagaama-arrived.

Avathaarikai: Ravana though , he held sway over much of the world, convoked a

secret discussion with his ministers on hearing the arrival of Rama with his

ally Sugriva and Vaanaraas.

Vibishana considred this moment as most felicitous and reasoned that Ravana

would heed to his words atleast by then. But since, Ravana became fretful and

replied him irately,Vibishana decided to leave Ravana and say good-bye once for

all and asserted that the best place for him there after would only be the place

where Sri Rama stayed.

Here Vaalmiki compares how fast Vibishana left Ravana's place to that of a

person who would rush out/escape from the burning house.

Vyaakyaanam;Vibishana clearly advised about the simplicity of Ravana's job i.e

restituting Seetha to Rama, failing which Ravana had to face Rama's arrows

slicing thro the heads of his Raakshaas.

Here Vaalmiki greatly admires Vibishana's zeal and passion for dharma and

exemplifies Ravana's intolerance to hear such advice was like the breeze that

was very warm to every one would not be tolerated by the fox.

Vibishana's advice was very much beneficial and complete in all aspects that no

one could blame him in the future that he abandoned his brother in that

critical situation.

Why would vibishana's advice sound cruel to Ravana? Vaalmiki explains that

having trembled the whole world by his sturdiness, hearing from his own brother

appreciating his enemy Rama would have certainly sounded cruel to him.

Thus vibishana who also stayed in his mother's womb where Ravana stayed before

adviced Ravana in a way that a gidir saatvijkan would have uttered

otherwise. Moreover Rishi says that one should not differentiate a person by

his age, younger or elder when giving such valuable advice and should be taken

in a sense that one who is learned teaches the ignorant.

With this I conclude the first half part of the vyaaktanam and shall post the

rest in my next mail.

Adiyel is fully responsible for any mistakes.

Adiyel Ramanuja Daasyai.

Srilatha Gunaseelan.
