Guest guest
Dear Atmabhandus: I consider it a great bhAgyam to start this posting on the translation of H.H.VanamAmalai Swami's on-going kAlakshEpams on mumukshuppadi over the tele-bridge, at the suggestion of Sriman Mukundan, although I am far from qualified to attempt such a task.I humbly request the members to point our my mistakes , specially the quotations in sanskrit and tamil, and ommissions which are all due to my various inabilities. The feedback received will be used for refining the article as mentioned by Sriman Mukundan. adiyAL rAmAnuja dAsi Sriranganayaki Sheela ---- avathArike: lOkAchArya gurave krishna pAdasya soonavE samsAra bhOgi sandaShta jeeva jeevAtavE nama: According to our poorvAchAryas, out of the ashTa dasa(18) rahsyAsa granthams in our sampradAyam, the three most important ones are Mumukshuppadi, Tatva trayam, and Sri Vachana Bhoosanam. One of the reasons for this is because what are left out in the other granthas are seen in these three. The other special merit of these granthAs is that these three have elaborate vyAkhyAnams (commentaries) by Swami manavALa mAmunigaL. It would not be an exaggeration to say that these granthAs are fortunate to have received the commentaries from Swami mAmuni. It is said that only if one actually tastes the sweetness of sugar, one really knows what is sweetness. Similarly here, only those who have experienced the vyAkhyAnams can only truly appreciate the statement above. Our AchAryas say that 'AchArya hridaya', another magnificent grantha - which although does not come under the category of 'rahasya granthAs', is matchless . as in "gaganAnAn gaganam upamAn; sAgarA sAgarO upamAn; rAma rAvaNa yuddhO rAma rAvaNayOryuva" i.e., just like the sky can only be equal to itself, the ocean to itself, the battle of rAmA - rAvaNa is equal to itself and is therefore unparalleled. Similarly 'AchArya hridayam' is a peerless grantha which is equal only to itself to which again, Swami mAmuni has written a splendid commentary. Therefore, all these four granthAs, in addition to their own greatness, possess this additional greatness of receiving the commentary of Swami mAmuni. This is something that should be kept in mind at all times. After mentioning about the greatness of the granthAs themselves, we shall now delve into the greatness of the granthakarta or the author of the granthAs. It is none other than the mahAn known as lOkAchArya mahAguru, by uttering whose name itself our tongues become sanctified. He is also known as 'pillai lOkAchArya', 'pillai ulahAryan'. It is to be noted that the name 'lOkAchAryan' was originally the name given to Swami nambillai, who stands as one of the foremost among the AchArya parampara of our sampradAyam. We all should really be proud to belong to such a sampradayam. That is why in upadEsa ratna mAlai Swami mAmuni says: "namperumAl nammAlwAr namjeeyar nambillai enbar avaravar EttatAl..." ....to be continued alwAr emberumAnAr jeeyar tiruvadigalE saranam jeeyar tiruvadigaLE saranam AchAryan tiruvadigaLE saranam New!
