Guest guest
samsAra bhOgi sandaShta jeeva jeevAtavE nama: AvatArikai (contd) Only the utsava tirumoorthi in Srirangam is known as 'namperumAL' Similarly among all the AlwArs only Kurugoor satakOpan is called, with affection, as 'nammALwar' and among all Jeeyars, Swami ParAshara bhattar's shishyan is affectionately called as "nam jeeyar" The same is true for 'nam pillai'. It was nambillai who was referred to as "ulahAryan" in the beginning as Swami maNavALa mAmuni points out in URM, "tunnu puhaL kandAdai tOLappar tammuhappAl enna 'ulahAriyanO' ennuraikka pinnai ulahAriyanennum peyar nambillaikkOngi vilahAmal ninnadennummEl" i.e., looking at the devotion and knowledge in nambillai, kandAdai tOLappar expressed his veneration saying "are you not a lOkAchAryan (preceptor of the world)?". This name was later given by vadakku tiruveedhi pillai, nambillai's desciple, to his son as a mark of respect and devotion to his preceptor nambillai as mentioned below in URM by Swami Mamuni pinnai vadakkutiruveedhipillai anbAl anda tirunAmattai Adarittu mannu puhaL maindarku chchattuhaiyAl vandu parandadu yengum indatirunAmam ingum. That is how Swami Pillai lOkAchAryar was known by that name in our sampradAyam. As mentioned earlier, among of all the granthAs written by PLC, mumukshuppadi, tatwa trayam amd srIvachana bhooshanam are very important. Mumukshuppadi has 3 chapters or prakaraNas namely (1) tirumantra prakaraNa, (2) dvaya prakaraNa (3) charamashlOka prakaraNa corresponding to each of the three mantras namely tirumantra, dvyaya and charama shlOka. Since charama shlOka depicts saranAgati , it is also considered as a mantra. As in "mantra yatrEna gOpayEt" it is to be carefully guarded as a secret if the desired result is to be achieved. These three mantras are important for a shrivaishNava who has had samAshrayanam under the feet of a sadAchAryan. The mantrOpadEsha is to be had in datail from the divine mouth of the AchArya and is not sufficient if we understand them superficially. For this reason we should study mumukshuppadiv wherein Swami PLC has explained all the three mantras for our benefit and has done yeomen service. Mumukshuppadi is always taught by our AchAryas according to the tradition of kAlakshEpam ( and not just as a series of lectues/upanyAsams) and is like a foundation for learning the other two granthams namely tatwa trayam and sri Vachana bhooshanam. ......to be continued alwAr emberumAnAr jeeyar tiruvadigalE saranam pillai lOkAchAryan tiruvadigaLE saranam jeeyar tiruvadigaLE saranam AchAryan tiruvadigaLE saranam New!
